PEEP recalls the original peep shows, when people gathered around “wonder boxes” to peer at lit-up images, both popular and forbidden.
PEEP inside. We’re hiding something.
Both a highly-theatrical performance art drag show and a 12-hour mutating photo exhibit, PEEP invites the viewers to use the private pleasure of peeping to subvert public images, to question the truth behind our public faces and, ultimately, to see memory as art.
In Peep Toronto’s preeminent drag artists restage iconic photographs from the last century in a 3 hour cycle. Experienced as a distance as large format projections of the original photographs slowly being replaced by the new, peep invites the audience to come closer and peer behind the photographs. In one of three rooms, performers prepare, shoot, and then cast off their characters while viewers can look to the entire process of recreating memories.
